I don’t want to braggggg but these things are BOMB.COM. That means AMAZING for anyone who isn’t an elder millennial like myself. I don’t think that I have ordered jalapeño poppers at a restaurant or even wanted to try and make them at home for at least the last decade until….. I saw people making them on Tik Tok in an air fryer so I thought I might give them a go. Don’t get me wrong….in my mind I love fried food. I get a wild hair once in a while and either order all the fried food at a restaurant and spend the rest of the day regretting it and being miserable, or I get a wild hair and fry all the food at home then not only spending the rest of the day regretting it and being miserable but also almost burning my house down and trying to get the fried food smell out of my kitchen for the next ten days. The only regret these give me is wishing I had made more. These are not breaded and don’t need it, are about as low calories as a jalapeño popper can get, are about as ridiculously easy to make as something can be, have a RESPECTABLE amount of protein for macro or keto diets, and can be customized in just about any way you could possibly want. Even with all those things that make them amazing….I think my favorite addition to this snack is the prosciutto in place of the bacon. We only usually eat turkey bacon, and something about wrapping turkey bacon around a jalapeño popper just wasn’t gonna do it for me, and I didn’t want all the extra fat that would come along with using regular bacon, so I used prosciutto. THIS IS A GAME CHANGER! It has way less fat, it sticks to itself making wrapping SUPER SIMPLE, annnnd it crisps up so GOOD! If all you have is bacon, obviously use it….but trust me when I tell you you want to try it with prosciutto.
NOTES:
- Use Whipped Cream Cheese- It has less fat than traditional, and I just think it tastes better!! More light and airy and less dense.
- Use fat-free shredded cheese to really cut the fat content down if that is something you are trying to do
- You don’t HAVE to use prosciutto, but you should! Not all of us have it lying around, but it really does bring this appetizer from good to AMAZING.
- The longer you air fryer these poppers, the less heat you will get from the pepper. We have popped a few of these back into the fryer for a couple of minutes to cut down on the heat when they were too hot for us. Do with that information what you will.
